This exquisite location makes it ideal for hunting mule deer, whitetail, Shiras moose, elk, black bear and coyotes, and we are honoured to be able to provide you hunting experiences for these diverse species. This southern Alberta landscape has a history of producing some trophy and quality wild game, and we have just the resources and experience to take you on these adventures.
Livingstone Lodge is owned and operated by Jessie Young. She was born and raised in Bragg Creek, Alberta on a cow-calf cattle ranch that was established by her great-grandfather in 1888. Her background has a deep history in ranching and she feels beyond grateful to be raised in such a lifestyle. Jessie’s great-grandparents on her maternal side were some of the first to establish the Calgary ranching community, and they were one of the founders of the Calgary Stampede back in 1912. On her paternal side, Jessie’s great-grandparents were historical homesteaders in southern BC rooted near Princeton. Susan Louisa Allison, Jessie’s great grandmother, was a designated Canadian National Historic pioneer woman for all her historic writings and community contribution. Jessie believes strongly in preserving the heritage and living with old fashioned values, and she has worked hard to keep the tradition alive. Today Jessie raises registered Simmental/Fullblood cattle in southern Alberta as well, all in hopes to keep the ranching industry alive for generations to come.
After graduating from the National Sports School, Jessie took few years off to follow her athletic goals of international ski racing, but then retired from a lifelong love of skiing to pursue a professional career. She attended university for six years, a few degrees and changes later, Jessie graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Saskatchewan. Travel nursing contracts have taken Jessie around the world and satisfied her love and enthusiasm for people and travel. Though not much time does allow, but to this day Jessie works casually as a registered nurse in rural Alberta and Yukon.
Retiring from ski racing, and choosing a flexible career was all to balance Jessie’s main passion-- the mountains and the game that lives in them; and the outfitting business. Jessie grew up an outfitter’s daughter and bush kid. She first went to the hunting area at two weeks old. She was raised on horseback, in a backpack and at a hunting lodge. Jessie and her brother, from the beginning, were exposed and fully involved in the outfitting business and lifestyle. Her father, Alan, took these kids on their first sheep hunt at ages 5 and 7 years old. Jessie’s first memories were hiking with her father and clients and being stashed under a rock with a bagged lunch while they would go on stocks. Originally, her family began outfitting in British Columbia through the mid-70’s until 1999. It was then that they ventured further north to the Yukon, where they purchased and started Midnight Sun Outfitting. Jessie and her brother were encouraged to be active in the business, first as a packer, then as a wrangler, then later to be guiding. Jessie has now been guiding for over 17 years and she could not be more grateful for the amazing experiences and lifelong friendships. To be given the responsibility to lead someone into the backcountry, on such a grandiose wild adventure, in hopes to make their trip of a lifetime come true, is truly a gift.
Over the years of guiding, more and more responsibility fell on Jessie and her brother’s shoulders in the business as well, and her passion for the land and animals grew too. Today Jessie is the outfitter for her family’s hunting area, Yukon Concession #4, and co-owner of Midnight Sun Outfitting. The Young’s run a premium big game hunting operation in the Northern Yukon, just northeast of Dawson City, Yukon. Jessie states she feels blessed beyond words to know this land, make footprints all over it and consider it her backyard. Midnight Sun Outfitting’s target species are sheep (Dall and Fannin), Alaskan-Yukon moose, Barren Ground caribou, Mountain caribou, and Interior grizzly. This is where Jessie’s obsession for hunting, the lifestyle and conservation all began.
Livingstone Lodge Ltd. is just an extension of that passion for the outdoors and outfitting. In 2023 Jessie purchased Livingstone Lodge Ltd permits from Blue Bronna Outfitting (Glenn and Donna Brown) who had previously outfitted the area for twenty years. As the proud owner of Livingstone Lodge Ltd., Jessie is thrilled about this new venture, an extension of her already accomplished outfitting legacy. The lodge extends her hunting seasons to a year-round operation, allowing her to immerse herself in the mountains, pursuing her passion for hunting throughout all seasons.
